You’re My Cup of Tea
“I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some.” 1 Corinthians 9:22
As I dive deeper into this call on my heart to write, I find myself posting about my own story more than ever. The hurt. The healing. The journey in between. But doing so means I am vulnerable. Exposed. And if I’m not careful, thoughts of the past can swoop in and overtake my present.
I can hear my old Pastor saying, “You’re just not everyone’s cup of tea.” And just like that, the battle begins. I convinced myself he was trying to be helpful, but I know deep down he wasn’t. I wasn’t his cup of tea either. But, that was said before I understood who I really was in Christ. Now I know, we don’t need to be everyone’s cup of tea, nor do we need their validation to know our worth.
And the good news is, we are the perfect temperature, flavor and strength for those who Jesus has predestined for our path anyway. A tall glass of sweet iced tea when they need refreshing. A warm cozy cup when they just need to chat. A hot cup of comfort when their world is caving in. For whatever reason, in whatever season, the Lord has pre-purposed our path for others who need exactly what we’re serving.
We’re not changing who we are to suit their needs. We’re using the fullness of who we are, to love and serve them, right where they are. So let's stay on path and keep our eyes peeled for those destined to cross it. And not let the sticks and stones along the way cause us to stumble, because they don’t determine our destiny. Let’s aim to be loving toward every cup that comes, regardless of the size, color or flavor it comes in. And let’s treasure the uniqueness of our own cup too, because we were made in the image of a perfect God.
